 Sprint 2013:

Sprint 2013, the annual sports event of MCOAHS is one event which is awaited the most because of its wide range of games where one can participate according to their interests. Be it the sweaty outdoor football or the tactful indoor table-tennis, be it kho-kho (a sport originated from maharashtra) or be it swimming, there's a bit of everything here. Students from different batches, and even the teachers, they all compete. Anxiety to eam spirit, unity to aggressiveness, victory to failure, it is all seen here.

Although we already have a very long list of sports activities in Sprint, we have some activities that could be added….
1. Skating

Roller skating is traveling on smooth surfaces with roller skates. It is a form of recreation as well as a sport. Skates generally come in three basic varieties: quad roller skates, inline skates/blades and tri-skates.
2. Lawn tennis

Tennis is a sport usually played between two players (singles) or between two teams of two players each (doubles). Each player uses a racket that is strung to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over a net and into the opponent's court. The object of the game is to play the ball in such a way that the opponent is not able to play a good return.
3. Marathon
The marathon is a long-distance running event that is usually run as a road race.
4. Hurdle race
The standard sprint hurdle race is 110 meters for men and 100 meters for women. The standard long hurdle race is 400 meters for both men and women. There are approx. 10 hurdles placed at certain distances & the runner is expected to jump over them without dropping the hurdle.

Some other fun games which could be added which are sure to bring health, fun & laughter.
1. Sack race

2. 3 legged race (where 2 participants make a team & run next to each other with one of their legs tied to the adjacent leg of the other participant)

3. Lemon 'n' spoon race

4. Food race (a plate full of food needs to be eaten while running & the one who eats all the food & reaches the end line first is the winner!)

5. How quickly can you wear clothes race (there will be t-shirts placed at certain distances & the participant needs to run, reach the t-shirt/pant, wear it over his/her clothes & run further till the next piece of clothing).

This LONG weekend: Splurge or Save

The long weekend, it’s finally around the corner! So besides the flag hoisting early Saturday morning what’s there do. That’s why I’ve wracking my brains thinking of things to do.
Two whole days that type of freedom rarely comes along  …..But then there’s always the budget factor. So I did what I do best. I made a list of ways to save and ways to splurge this weekend.
So list SAVE has: (this will keep your wallet intact, spending only the bare minimum)
   1. For the movie maniacs- Movie marathons

It is by far the cheapest way of spending your holiday. Sit with your favourite bunch of buddies, stack of movies. Stock up on your popcorn and your soda pop..so that you save up on time pausing movies because there aren’t any commercials J

2. For all the gamers out there- Burnout and Trigger are bound to be packed this weekend. So call ahead and book your spot.

 3.       Attil -   Attil has an exciting meals lined up this republic day, delight your taste buds with a completely Indian menu this year. And you get absolute money worth of your food

4. 4.  Natural’s spa- for all those in need of a relaxation can head to the spa. It has a list of rejuvenating and replenishing treatment for all the spa lovers out there.

5.   St. Mary’s Island- Its for those who just don’t want to laze around this weekend. It’s got absolutely breathtaking view and gives you sanctity from the busy Manipal life.

St. Mary's Island is about 8 kms north of Malpe in Udupi district. The island was formed out of the lava that erupted from the sea millions of years ago. It is thus famous for its basalt rock formation. The Portuguese traveller Vasco-da-Gama landed on the island in 1498 and called it El Pardon de Santa Maria.

Then my next list is for those who plan on doing some serious damage to their pockets. I’ve picked the most perfect destinations to spend this weekend and literally have a blast in this country that we call our own.
  Here comes the SPLURGE list:

 1.       A day in Mangalore

Ok so you might think its blah but a surprisingly large number of movies are releasing this week.
Like.. Hansel and Gretel: witch hunters

And the much awaited Race 2

Vishwaroop (Hindi)

and Midnight’s Children.

2.     Gajalee-

it’s a delight for all your taste buds. Its honestly one place that has the most mouth watering food I’ve ever tasted .From its vegetarian dishes to its fish food this has got to be the best restraunt  in Mangalore

And what’s more its ambience to die for.. its set on a hilltop with a complete indoor and outdoor sky restraunt over looking Mangalore’s skyline and in the night its completely lit and the streetlights of Mangalore add to the millions of stars overlooking this area. Address: gajalee circuit compound, kudri hills, Mangalore

3.   Panambur beach:

it is known as India’s safest beach.  The beach has also received recognition as one of the cleanest beaches in India. And it has eco friendly cottages a few feet away from the beach.

Activities like surfing, dolphin sighting, paragliding, horse riding and camel riding also take place here.
This weekend on the 27th January Euphoria one of India’s bands will be performing here.

4.   Turtle bay-

Located on the scenic Traci Maravanthe area of Karnataka, turtle bay has resorts which offer you the luxury of lounging on the pristine golden sands, amidst the swaying coconut palms and refreshing swims in the sea

It’s also got activities like sea kayaking, snorkelling, scuba diving, trekking and backwater river rides.

5.       Coorg-

coorg makes you leave your world behind and step into heaven.
There are beautiful resorts and villas which have indoor and outdoor pools
During the day you can go down to visit the village and its plantations. You can also go for a bird watching tour
and wild river rafting here.

Here's to you all for having a lovely weekend, spent with loved ones with memories that shall last you a lifetime.
Have a safe trip!
Cheers!

Au Revoir Dear Interns!!!

They say that most of our life is like a series of images; that they pass us by like towns on the highway. And the last cab journey you're going to take to the airport, or the train station, thats when you're going to visit your favorite memories again- the endless procrastination, the funny hostel moments, the birthday celebrations, studying in the library, pretending to study in the library, downright NOT studying in the library, the walks to End Point, the college hallways, the long road trips, the silly fights with your friends, rehearsals for Parrlon and Pulse, sleeping during Interact classes, Fresh n Honest coffee, the list is endless.

Moments where you've laughed, and cried, and been put down but always got back up; moments of no hope, moments of full of hope, moments of loneliness, moments of full support, moments of defeat, moments of vitory. College hasnt been easy for you for sure, but you and me, we both know it's been worth it every single time you've gotten back up from your puddles of hopelessness and insecurities.

And that very instant, when these scenes pass by like towns on the higway, that's when it's going to hit you that it's over. You're going to laugh at the very fact that in the past 4 to 5 years, you must have lost pens atleast 647 times, your umbrellas 4 times, your apetite 26 times, your way 675 times, and your mind a gazillion times. But mainly, you're going to remember what this place have given you- the wonderful experiences; the endless number of insignificant moments which have helped shape who you are now, the number of people who has grown with you. You will realize that you'll lose a part of yourself behind after you leave. Ironic and bittersweet, because you have your whole life ahead of you, despite the fact that an entire journey is over.

Reminds me of what Federick Beuchner said, "So here is the world; beautiful and terrible things happen, but don't be afraid" I wish you all the very best; I hope you find what you are looking for.

Most of us (including me!!) always fail to find the good in goodbye, so instead, I'd like to share a quote from my favorite show, One Tree Hill;
"The most important thing is not to be bitter over life's disappointments. Learn to let go of your past, and recognize that every day won't be sunny. And when you find yourself lost in the darkness of despair, remember, it's only in the black of the night that you see the stars, and those stars will lead you back home. So don't be afraid to make mistakes, to stumble and fall, because most of the time, the greatest rewards come from doing the things that scare you the most. Maybe you'll get everything you wish for. Maybe you'll get more than you ever could have imagined. Who knows where life will take you; the road is long and in the end, the journey is the destination."

  MANIPAL WILL MISS YOU TOO!!!

May This New Begining Bring You Success In Whatever You Do!
Farewell Dear Interns.
Best Wishes for your Future,
